Time for a Personal Growth Quote! 18 Aug 20

We hear this more and more nowadays and more and more people rightly believe so. However there are some people who struggle to accept that they can simply switch their thoughts to positive ones and experience positivity at the snap of a finger, and rightly so.

Because if you have been affected by trauma, whether a one-time impactful incident that has changed your life or an apparently less impactful experience but repetitive in nature, you have an imprint in your brain for the bad feelings that you are experiencing daily. This implies that no matter how hard you try to consciously direct your thoughts to positive ones, you might find it hard to even experience any positive feelings at all.

This is because the imprint is at an unconscious level and no amount of conscious thinking will override the feelings well enough that you only experience them occasionally, because these stem from another part of your brain, the emotional brain, the unconscious mind.

As a result, only working with your emotional brain will undo that imprint of depression, low self-esteem, anger, distrust, whatever the feelings are that are keeping you down preventing you from achieving a fulfilling life, regardless of what your goals are.

It doesn’t take long, but not many professionals out there are skilled to work with trauma and the emotional brain at the same time, which is why you might have been in therapy for years already and still have all those feelings and emotions, and unfortunately, I’m afraid to say that they are not going anywhere because the wrong part of the brain is addressed.
